How does light affect mitochondria and energy production?

"Number one. Mitochondria are the energy powerhouses of the cell. They create energy by passing electrons over their surfaces and by transferring protons across membranes and its really complicated but simple version is that activity of these cytochromes, which are the enzymes that pass the electrons along and also the activity of different proton pumps is affected by light in a large variety of ways. Number 1, cytochrome c-oxidase which is the terminal electron receptor of the electron chain transport and really is the rate limiting step can be tuned by infrared and red light. So all these photobiomodulation products that increase peoples energy, what they are doing fundamentally is increasing how well that enzyme is functioning to increase mitochondrial energy production."

"Another key part of this is that mitochondria produce water using a very specific mix of hydrogens. This is where the whole deuterium story comes in. A whole other topic. But that water production is really critical in mitochondria. And you have to remember that water in natural living systems doesn't work the way people think it works."

"Light particularly infrared, red, and UV light can increase the exclusion zone of water. Which basically is charging the cellular battery. This is why people feel so much better and have so much more energy with IF, red, and uv light. This is why UV light has an impact on athletic performance. People get really significant gains in their athleticism when they are irradiated by UV light. That literature goes back to the 50s and it is very well described. It's not just about vitamin D either which a lot of people think it is."

"Melatonin is the hormone that controls mitochondrial heteroplasmy rates. Chronic suppression of melatonin levels by fake light and/or inadequate IF/red light. If you dont get enough IF/red light, you don't make melatonin in the skin and eye during the day. If you don't get enough melatonin, your mitochondria fall apart. This is why mammals at high latitudes can get obesity and diabetes that are seasonally breeding even though they are eating a perfectly natural diet. Diabetes and obesity are natural adaptations of high latitudes that allow animals to pack on the weight that they need to burn off in the winter in the cold. All these facts play a role in whether your mitochondria are healthy or unwell. "

Taking exogenous (supplement) melatonin?

"Copy nature. You need IF and red light on your skin to make melatonin. That's the way you are supposed to make it. There's a lot of different things in your gut can make melatonin, so this is also important. This is why eating late at night is a real disaster. It tanks your melatonin levels. It ruins your gut physiology, etc...."

"When you are washing the dishes, you turn on the sink. When you want to take a shower you turn on the shower. That's like your body makes melatonin in different compartments of the cells in different cells in the body at different times of the day in different quantities according to different environmental stimuli. So telling me you want to take melatonin pills and live in a bad light environment is like saying I'm gonna wash my dishes by opening my front door, hooking up a fire hose on the fire hydrant outside and squirting water inside."
